Cheng-Hsu Chung

As both illustrator and animator, each world Cheng creates is truly a world of his own. Cheng’s artistic practice employs surreal images and character performances in animation to articulate the changing nature of emotion, modern relationships and the experiences queer bodies encounter in modern culture.

Cheng also works on commissions such as music videos, ads, and illustrations. Through working artistically and commercially as an animator and illustrator, his work adds artistry and originality to commercial projects while honouring his signature style. Selected clients include Adult Swim, BBC, Bayer AG, Berliner Zeitung, Warp Records, Adidas, among others.

Cheng’s films have been screened in international film festivals, such as Ottawa International Animation Festival, Annecy International Animation Film Festival, GLAS Animation Festival and more. Awards include Taiwan Grand Prize at Kaohsiung Film Festival, Bronze at Berlin Music Video Awards 2020, Jury mention at London International Animation Festival. His film ‘Adorable’ was nominated for Best Animated Short Film in Golden Horse Award and Taipei Film Festival.
