John Kahrs directs the beautiful Age of Sail for Google Spotlight Stories. Set on the open ocean in 1900, Age Of Sail is the story of William Avery (played by Ian McShane), an old sailor adrift and alone in the North Atlantic. When Avery reluctantly rescues a teen (played by Cathy Ang) who has mysteriously fallen overboard, Avery finds redemption and hope in his darkest hours.
"I wanted to go for a David Lean expansiveness and make a story that had that epic quality. Characters with histories, going back to Victorian time -- I wanted to load all that stuff in there so it felt like this was a substantial movie, a big, sweeping, epic movie compressed into a really short running time.”
