Date with Destiny
Not To Scale and Caleb Woods Set Sail for the All-New Disney Destiny Cruise Ship.
Disney’s in-house creative agency, Yellow Shoes, brought on board Director Caleb Woods and the magical crew at Not To Scale to meld together live-action and meticulously crafted animation, to create a world of wonder for the launch of Disney’s new cruise ship, ‘Destiny’.
The 30-second film follows a family of four, the ship’s quintessential passengers, who soon after stepping foot on the deck are transported into painterly visions of the experiences that lie ahead.
Caleb and Technical Director James Littlemore took great care to reinforce consistency through the two sections of the film, mindful of elements like the colour palette and lighting to ensure these were uninterrupted by the switch in mediums.
Early 2D Design Exploration

Art Director Bianca Rivetti Burattini led a small team of artists and animators who painted each animated frame, capturing with fluid beauty the delightful possibilities open to voyagers of Disney Destiny.
Shooting was divided between a studio setting and a real Disney cruise ship for the live action opening and closing scenes on the deck. The actors performed all the shots that would be animated for the art department to reference.
From the ballroom to the grand foyer, the scenes of the painted world were built as 3D models, which were then integrated with the footage of the actors to ensure the scale, positioning and scenery was cohesive.
