Ubik Biography

UBIK

Ubik is the combination of two established and award winning animation directors, Stephen Dalton and Nick Losse.

Ubik have directed a multitude of 2D, 3D, Mixed Media and Stop Motion projects lending their multi-talented skills to international agencies including Ogilvy, Grey London, Grey Amsterdam, Wieden + Kennedy and BBH London. Bringing creative solutions to big brands – Flora, Nestle, MTV, laterooms.com, Saga….

In 2007, Ubik beat stiff competition to win the most prestigious award in commercial animation, the coveted British Television Advertising Craft Award for Best Animation in a commercial for their evocative film for MTV , entitled ‘3650’

Ubik went on to create an impressive short, ‘Voxel’, after being invited to participate in the F5 Festival in New York by ‘Motionographer’. The film was a hit and went on to be shown at London Short Film Festival, The Melbourne Film Festival, the Red Stick Animation Festival, Tweak and OneDotZero Festival.

Luna – Perfect Moment

Put the kettle on, and enjoy Ubik’s new 30″ spot for Middle Eastern milk product ‘Luna’. Working with London agency Anthem, Ubik have now added complex fluid simulation to their extensive animation repertoire, Anthem tasked the Guys with telling the story of  a perfect family moment all through the medium of milk and tea. This delicate and difficult to achieve concept was painstakingly created at Not To Scale London using Softimage for modeling and animation , fluid simulation in Houdini and Composited in After effects, whilst Ubik also cast and shot the expertly integrated live action family and pack. Refreshing indeed.

MTV – 3650

In 2007, Ubik beat stiff competition to win perhaps the most prestigious award in commercial animation, the coveted British Television Advertising Craft Award for Best Animation in a commercial. This was for their short film created for MTV and commissioned by Ogilvy. The film entitled ‘3650’ was part of MTV Switch campaign to highlight awareness to the accelerating effects of global warming.

Tic Tacs – Conga

Ubik directed two tic tac topping films for Krow Communications, over 50,000 tic tacs were meticulously used shot over three days.

Fortis – IF

Simply constructed 2D animation, forming part of a huge campaign for Fortis and Grey London. Ubik went on to work with Grey on three additional commercials in a similar style.

CBBC – Wizards vs Aliens Titles

The new TV Series for CBBC from BAFTA winning writers Russell T Davies, Phil Ford and Producer Brian Minchin is now on air.
We were proud to be tasked with the designing, directing and in house production of over 300 VFX shots and the title sequence, for the new series.
Directing duo Ubik led the project, teamed with our VFX production crew headed by Mel Byrne and Grant Hewlett.
