ATYP Biog
In December 2011 Chris Angelkov and Merlin Nation joined forces to create the Directing duo ATYP. Together they have over 20 years of experience producing award-winning animation and design work.
Chris started out as a broadcast designer at Static 2358
cutting his teeth on TV channel branding for C4 / Sky / Disney / Universal / Star. Chris left in 2002 to set up Precursor with Tim Swift (Man vs Machine) and Noah Harris (Blink), which they ran successfully together for five years.
Merlin came into directing through working at Digit, an interactive company, where he was responsible for the on-air and online rebrand of MTV 2, of which the on-air work won Promax gold in the US.
After Digit Merlin co-founded Up The Resolution in 2003; directing work for Nokia, Space NK, and Tate Britain, whilst also producing animation for Chris Morris’s Nathan Barley TV series.
After Up The Resolution, Merlin branched out on his own as a freelance director and it was at this point that he and Chris first shared a studio and the foundation for ATYP began to take shape.
Merlin was then appointed creative director of animation & VFX studio Mainframe, where he directed work for Volvo, MTV and Nickelodeon, before leaving at the end of 2011 to join forces with Chris to create ATYP.
